“India is lagging in its effort to reach United Nations goals to reduce poverty and improve health and sanitation, but has shown significant progress boosting education, treating AIDS and addressing environmental concerns,” Noeleen Heyzer, executive secretary of the U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, said last week, the New York Times’ “India Ink” blog reports. According to an Asia Pacific Millennium Development Goal (MDG) report (.pdf) released last week, which “graded the progress of the eight millennium goals using 22 socio-economic indicators …, India has reached goals set in seven indicators out of 22 and is on track to achieve three others, but is lagging behind in 12,” the blog notes.

“The good news, though, is that our analysis shows many of these goals can still be reached with a redoubling of efforts,” Heyzer said, according to the blog.

A year or so before Emma was born I signed up to serve a three-year term on a church committee. DUMB. Dumb dumb dumb. At the time I was thinking, “Something else to do! A chance to get out of the house! Grown up conversation!” And it was for a while, but then Emma was born and tonight was the first meeting I’ve attended since. I mean, at this point they should pretty much fire me for poor attendance.

Actually, last night I was feeding the baby and I blindly reached over to the nightstand, feeling around for my phone to check the time. Then I noticed I had an email and the subject line said “meeting minutes”.

I was so worried about coming back here to Australia but it has been lovely so far. Stepping into an Australian summer was the best thing I could have done to get a break from the cold Andes in Peru, with the warm and sometimes the hot weather, it feels so inviting to be here.

After a few days of adjusting to the time difference and basically getting over my jet lag, I went back to my intention of why Im here and so yesterday began my journey with healing. The first professional healer I saw was my long time Chinese Herbalist and doctor that Ive been seeing regularly since I was about eight years old.

Your feet bear the weight of your entire body and when they’re not properly supported or they’re expected to bear more than they’re designed to carry, they react with pain. The delicate network of bones that makeup the feet and allow us to walk and balance can get pushed out of alignment, which can irritate the joints, skin, nerves and connective tissue.

Weight loss, proper hygiene, and the right shoes are among of the most common recommendations doctors make when their patients come in with painful feet and ankles. They might also look for medical conditions associated with foot pain like diabetes and heart disease, (which can cause nerve damage and circulatory problems in the lower extremities) or broken bones.

Most of the time, when a colleague or co-worker calls me over to watch a video on Youtube, my first thought is to look at the time length of the video so I’ll know how long I’ll spend with a quizzical look on my face.  But even I could not escape the hypnotizing cuteness of the “Talking Twin Babies” video.  If you haven’t seen it, the clip shows a set of twins facing off babbling and gesturing like two old companions that are so in-tune they could finish each others’ thoughts.  The toddlers break through the developmental boundaries of pre-language to share humor, coordinate dance steps, and converse about something that looks extremely funny and interesting to both of them.

But is this just a case of “monkey-see, monkey-do?”  Is it just simple imitation?  Not at all, and what should amaze you, most likely having this power yourself, is the ability of Mirror Neurons to give you a meaningful “feel” for what another person is thinking or experiencing. Neurons are those amazin

ATLANTA — A new government study suggests a lot of teenage girls are clueless about their chances of getting pregnant.

In a survey of thousands of teenage mothers who had unintended pregnancies, about a third who didn’t use birth control said the reason was they didn’t believe they could pregnant.

Why they thought that isn’t clear. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey didn’t ask teens to explain.

But other researchers have talked to teen moms who believed they couldn’t get pregnant the first time they had sex, didn’t think they could get pregnant at that time of the month or thought they were sterile.
